Grant and I made it to the Lost River Cabin around 3pm after a pretty uneventful drive. The cats were fabulous. I don't think they loved the ride but they didn't meow (or howl that shrieking baby cry) at all. We were a bit concerned the last couple miles because it was up and down windy roads and well, I wouldn't have liked it too much in the back seat but the cats took it in stride.
We arrived and were greeted with a wonderful welcome tray with coffee and wine. They have also created a very helpful visitors notebook with all the important information.

The house is beautiful and we've enjoyed spending the afternoon on the deck reading and listening to the short wave. Here are some shots of the house.

The cats have been hiding under the bed since we got here. Thankfully I got them to eat a little food. I'm hoping that they'll do better tomorrow and enjoy the rest of the week. Perhaps they'll figure out that there are lots of insects, birds and flora to look at, but being city cats at this point they're just freaked out by it all. As you can see below...

One thing I've been looking for to and planning extensively for is cooking! I've got a lots of great food to make this week and a few new recipes to try. I'm quite excited and will definitely be posting about our "eats" this week. Tonight we had a simple meal but one that we don't have very often because we live on the eighth floor with no outside access. Can you guess...we grilled out...charcoal...is there any other way? We made black bean burgers with tomato, avocado and baby lettuce and Grant also grilled up some hot dogs. It was all very tasty - great grill job Grant!

For dessert I made something that I haven't had in many, many years, but thanks to new created Dandies, vegans can now enjoy the occasional rice krispy treat!

I followed the kellogg's recipe exactly and they turned out just like I remembered them. It was a nice treat with my sleepytime tea. Speaking of which, I'm headed to bed! You can see more pictures here.
