Grant and I decided to stay close to home today. We had a quiet, calm day at the house and just soaked in all the vacation bliss.
We started our day early by watching the sun rise. Of course this is not hard to do when there's a deck off your bedroom and large glass doors that let you to stay in bed but see it all.

Once the sun was up, I decided to get up too. Grant on the other hand got some more zzzz's. I took advantage of the cool morning air and did some baking. I brought the ingredients to make one of Grant's favorite snacks, Cheezy Quackers, and thought a little love thrown in would be nice. I also made some chocolate chips cookies which are a favorite treat in our house.

Then I made a big breakfast with pancakes, "sausage" and fruit. At this point all the yummy smells made their way to the loft and Grant stumbled down for breakfast and was happily surprised.

The rest of the day was spent relaxing, which included reading, puzzles and cards. We played rummy again and I could tell Grant was getting better but I still won.
For dinner we grilled out and I made barbecued ribs from scratch. It's a recipe we both like but don't make that often because we can't grill in DC. We also grilled corn, baby sweet peppers and heirloom tomatoes. It was a delicious meal.

Oh and we went for a walk tonight and found a tree where 3 butterflies appeared to be resting for the night. We've seen a lot of butterflies here and wonder if this area might be a migratory stop. Anyway, it's been fun watching them flutter around during the day, but it was especially cool seeing 3 of them taking a break together. I think these pictures only show two butterflies because one kept flying around and coming back a few times.
