I made donuts for the first time ever and they turned out pretty good. They're not hard just a long process. I saw the recipe in My Sweet Vegan and just had to give it a try. Grant really liked them and thought they tasted as good as Krispy Kreme, but without all the artificial flavor and lard film left on your tongue. You can see that the glaze was not that pretty, but the taste was not effected.
After donuts, Grant and I went for a couple walks. We started off at that Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens which James had mentioned on his blog last fall. It was a nice park, but we only spent about 15 minutes there because they were closing. We will definitely go back. We took the picture below plus a couple others.
From there we went to National Arboretum and walked around there a bit before it closed. We really liked walking through the Chinese Pavilion where all the bonsai are located for the winter. We saw amazing bonsai that were between 50 and 100 years old and then there were a couple that were really old. The most famous tree, given to DC as a gesture during the bicentennial, is over 400 years old.
At the very end of our walk we were delighted to see signs of spring!! It's been so cold here I'm actually looking forward to some warmer weather.
After our walk we went to one of our favorite South Indian restaurants and enjoyed a nice meal.
I'd like to finish this post wishing my mother a very happy birthday. I hope you, dad and dog are celebrating in style.
Enjoy your signs of spring. I'm sure your mom told you but we just got two feet of snow in Maine. Fun times!
