Poncho Finished!

Harlot_ponchoOk, it's been done for a couple weeks, so I'm only far behind everyone else in the knit-a-long, instead of "can you knit any slower?" behind everyone else.  This group has been great and very supportive.  It was a fabulous first knit along and I've VERY happy with my results. Friends are quite impressed with my poncho...a big thanks to Yarn Harlot for such a great design.  There is a close-up of the fringe in my photo album (which is a bit dark, so I'll try to get a better photo).

Poncho Success

poncho_9-6-04Good News! I was able to get my poncho started last night and I've made pretty good progress this today. The problem was the needle length...too long for the number of stitches. Once I got started, it's been really easy. The poncho is knitting up fast and I love the color. I was a bit hesitant at first because I don't have to much orange in my life, but I guess that's exactly why I was drawn to the color. The red flecks actually make it look a rust color.

I ripped out my opera scarf last night. I had quite a bit done but the edges were uneven in places and it had a mistake that I was unable to overlook. It knit up pretty fast, so I'll pick it up again soon.

I'm off to bed because it's back to work tomorrow - ugh!

very twisted poncho

Perhaps starting this project in the late late night was not a good idea. I got up this morning and took a look at my poncho and as I'm turning the circular needles in my hands I notice not one twist in the round, but oh...about 5 twists. UGH!! I thought I was being careful. I don't have much experience with knitting in the round, so I missed something. The cord between the needles is so much longer than the round at this point, it's a bit unwieldy. I’m thinking that if I start with a shorter circular and switch when I need to, perhaps that will be easier to manage. I’m knitting with some friends today, so I’ll get some advise. All that being said, a froggy and I had morning coffee laced with tears. That was my 3rd rip on this project and I had knit quite a few rows. I love this yarn, but it enjoys being tangled which made the process even more frustrating. Anyway, I’m feeling better now and I’m confident I’ll figure this out. Even twisted, I really liked the pattern that was emerging.

I had to post this picture of my cat, Oliver. He’s something...as soon as I motioned that I was going us this flat space (I was planning on taking some pictures of what I’m working on), he got up there. He never hangs out up there - cats are great!

Knitty Dreams

Ok, it's 2:30 am and I've been up since 6:30am - yup, I'm tired. I've been knitting for the past 4 hours. Well knitting unsuccessfully for most of the time. I was trying to start a project that I decided to do this morning...perhaps I should back up. So I'm looking around the knitting blogs this morning and I come upon a poncho knit-a-long I'm inspired and decide I will join, not at all deterred by the fact that it starts on Monday. Next - I decide on a pattern, which wasn't too difficult as I've been eyeing the very harlot poncho. Choice made...I run to my LYS, choose the yarn (a beautiful orange/red wool/mohair mix), pick up some needles and poof - a poncho is started. Tonight I casted on and had some twisting problems and needed to start over a couple times, but finally I'm 4 or 5 rows in and I think things are going well. Now I'll stop until Monday, the official start date.

Here's the yarn I'm using for the poncho.
