the alamo

This is the view from my hotel. So I finally made it in last night. I got to my hotel around midnight DC time. My plane was late and the airport cab dropped me off at the wrong hotel, which I didn't notice until I got to the front desk. I'm not staying at chain hotel so there wasn't a big marquee staring me in the face.
I'm staying at the Emily Morgan Hotel. It's a nice hotel...4 stars apparently.  However, there isn't a desk which might make working interesting, but there is only a one-time fee for wireless. You don't see that often.

Today I'm heading to Whole Foods to pick up some essentials, working on my presentation and perhaps sitting by the pool.  More later....

Sunny San Diego and Sock Update

room with a view

So I made it to San Diego. I'm here this week attending the National Educational Computing Conference.  I'm here for work, professional development and hopefully a little bit of fun.  I'm staying at the Manchester Grand Hyatt and it's quite beautiful.  I got a room with a view and I'm happy about that.  Tomorrow I hope to go to the zoo to see little Su Lin and definitely be watching the fireworks.

In knitting news. I'm almost done my first sock! My flight here provided lots of time to knit, so all I have left is a couple more rows on the toe and then I need ot learn the kitchener stitch. I can't wait to have one sock done, I've got so many beautiful skeins of sock yearn, so I really need to get a least one sock under my belt.

Relaxing at the Ocean

Last Thursday Grant and I headed to Bethany Beach to celebrate his birthday.  I hadn't told him anything about where we were going so that it would be a surprise.  I did some searching online and  found the Addy Sea Inn which sits right on the ocean.  We stayed in the Champagne Room (#10) Because it still winter, we were actually the only people staying there Thursday night. We had the entire place to our selves.  This also meant that Bethany was pretty much a ghost town, but that only ensured that we took time to relax.  Below are some pictures from our weekend.  I highly recommend...

This photo is taken from the beach. See the 3 windows on the top floor, that was our room.  We had such a lovely room and view!

Here is the view from our room.  We spent many hours sitting in these chairs reading, knitting, playing cards, and talking.  See the wine they left in the room to celebrate Grant's birthday?

Here we are taking a self portrait. These pictures always turn out crazy...

We took a 2 hour walk on the beach. It was windy and a bit chilly but also so beautiful. The sun and blue sky was amazing.

Both mornings we made it a point to wake up early, around 5am, so that we could see the sun rise over the ocean. This was the view from our bed....incredible!!

St. Louis Coming to a Close

So I've been in St. Louis since last Tuesday, attending and participating in my work's annual meeting.  It's been long and tiring and I was coming to the end with the feeling that St. Louis did not have all that much to offer, but I found a silver lining last night.

CitymusuemChickona, Kirstin and I were all happily knitting the evening away when a co-worker called and demanded, "You have to get over here and check this out!".  Earlier in the evening they had left for a press party at the city museum and we, happy to knit, knit, knit, turned down the invite to join them. Well when they called asked us to join them, we couldn't ignore their enthusiasm. We got on the shuttle bus and headed over. Our driver said the party we hopping, the food was yummy and the drinks were flowing.  He gave us a little history of the St. Louis City Museum and our curiosity developed. As we drove up to the museum we were welcomed by interesting sculptures and beautiful gardens growing out of large trash dumpsters - we had stumbled onto something different.

Once inside we couldn't believe what we found.  It was an amazing playground for adults. Kids play there too, but clearly this playhouse was built for adults to enjoy as well.  Some of the things I did??? Slid down slides, explored caves, pet a shark, turtle and rabbit, and danced to 80s music.  It was a magical adventure.  Oh and the free food and drink was delicious as well. There was baseball fare on floor two and pasta and stir-fry on floor three. I chose the veggie stir-fry served in my own little takeout box and washed it down with a vodka tonic.  After much exploring, the end of the night was spent dancing (and singing) to 80s favorites.  It always amazes me how I still know all the words  20 years later. Good times...

If ever in St. Louis, I highly recommend visiting the city museum.

In regards to knitting, I plugging along with my potholders.  I'm still hoping to be finished by this weekend. I'll keep you posted.
