Little Booties Finished

I've finished one pair of baby booties that I'm working on. I'm knitting a few baby things  right now as I know lots of women having babies in the next few months.  It's fun knitting little things. They knit up pretty quick and they're just so darn cute.

Yarn: Fixation

Catching Up!

So my trip to Maine was great!  A little working...a little relaxing...a little knitting.  Since I'll never catch up on my posting if I describe in detail. I decided to make a picture mosaic with brief descriptions...

Pics 1 - 4: Belfast, Maine is so lovely. Lots of little shops, located right on the ocean. There is a yarn store, a green store and a number of other specialty shops. Just blocks away from Main street you'll find the cutest gingerbread houses hugging the waterfront.  Belfast is definitely a place I could enjoy spending time in.

Pics 5 - 8: Camden, Maine is another cute oceanfront town, but to me not quite a lovely.  It's a bit more touristy, so a lot more people.  However, there are two yarn stores, beautiful views, and yummy places to eat, so it's always nice to visit.

Pics 9 - 20: All of these pictures were taken at various times while hanging out at my parents.  I've grown to really like my parents new house. It's no longer on the water, but it's special to them and they've made it a lovely place to relax in.  Their backyard area is surrounded by trees, flowers and many birds. It's enjoyable to sit back there and knit (and in Maine, it's cool enough). We've also hooked them up with Wi-Fi so my brother and I can keep in touch with friends and DC, I mean work from Maine, of course.

Lastly, I took some shots of Maine neutrals...

When I got home, I found two surprises waiting for me. My July Project Spectrum Postcard:

My partner was Lolly and she made me a beautiful postcard. I love the pressed flowers and well purple is one of my favorite colors.  I feel very lucky to have had the Project Spectrum Hostess as my partner.

The next surprise I came home to was my flip-flop swap surprise - yeah!

Joni sent me all kinds of summer fun! The flip-flops have a straw foot bed and red trim. I have lots of flip-flops but none like this so she made a great choice.  She also sent me some needles, (all sizes I don't have!) some great yarn - perfect for washcloths, a book I've been coveting, little note pads, oh!two cute toe rings that I'm think she made (I'll have to take separate pictures of those) and something that completely amazed me...she knitted me some footies!  Clearly Joni is a much faster knitter than me, as we only had a couple weeks to put this package together and had I'd tried to do the same, I'd probably gotten through my cast on.  My gifts were wonderful and I'm really enjoying everything. Thank you Joni!

weekend roundup

Ok, so let's get up to date...

oliver home from the hospitalAround 3am Friday morning some noise under my bed woke me up. I looked under there to find Oliver, clearly looking freaked out.  It was obvious to me that he wasn't feeling well and was frightened. His pupils were dilated and he wouldn't come out from under the bed. I wondered if he and Kuba had been fighting and he had gotten is hiney kicked. Eventually I coaxed with out with his carrier (he loves getting inside the carrier), checked him out and didn't see any wounds or blood and decided it was his heart so we headed to the animal hospital. It turns out that he had fluid in his lungs (due to being in end stage cardiac failure) and he was having trouble breathing. Oliver stayed in the hospital, hanging out in an oxygen tent, until Saturday when he was breathing much easier. They up his diuretic to take care of the extra fluid from his heart and hopefully he will maintain good breathing. The pink bandage is from his IV. He slept most of the weekend and appeared to be feeling better.

turned the heel (and made a hat) On Saturday I hung around the house with Oliver and did some knitting. I got further on my sock. You can see I finished the heel flap and turned the heel. Now onto the tough part...the gusset.

On Saturday I received a package from my one skein pal. It was a beautiful skein of mohair/wool in a colorway named sun-baked earth. Isn’t that a fabulous name? Perfect for me! She also sent a lovely over-sized postcard and for a sock key chain. What a great way to use all those bits of sock yarn.

Rowan_cottonrope Lastly, on Sunday Grant wanted to go to the bike store so I went to the knitting store which is right down the street.  I picked up some Rowan Cotton Rope (on sale!)and the book Rowan Cotton Rope Collection because I fell in love with the hat on the front cover (Tishka Hat). I'm knitting the hat in blue with a mint trim (see below) for a friend, but I also got some yarn to make one for myself in colors that will hopefully match my clapotis which is also knit in cotton.

That should bring you up to day or at least to Monday :)

San Diego, Dave, Friends and some Knitting

So I'm back from San Diego and Boston. The conference was good and San Diego was beautiful.  What a wonderful break from DC's heat...really lovely.  My quick trip to Boston was much fun. I met up with my best friends from high school, Dana and Johnny and we, as usual, had a blast.  Lots of laughs all around and we had a great time at the Dave Matthews concert. It was really cool to be at Fenway for a concert. Dave sang "Sweet Caroline" a red sox theme song, and the crowd loved it.

Just before I left I received the best surprise from my one skein pal. She sent me the most gorgeous skein of wool boucle in a deep, rich colorway of red, black, brown. I love it! She also sent me some peach tea and a sweet card.  It was a wonderful surprise.
One Skein Pal Surprise - July

While in San Diego, I finished my first sock! Can you believe it?! It took a while, but now that I've finished one, I'm ready to zip through the next one - yeah!! Here are some picks, both taken at the airport.
A finished sock!   Finished and on the foot
