Meet Elijah

Elijah_2 Our friends Amanda and Sarah had their baby Elijah on Halloween.  He's a beautiful baby boy and Grant and I are looking forward to meeting him very soon.  Check out the little feet! I can't believe the booties are actually a little big.  When you're knitting them they seem so small and I have to say I wasn't sure they would fit, but babies are smaller than you think.

Our Little Tent

Grant and I spent the weekend with friends at Amanda and Peter's cabin on the eastern shore. We are so lucky to be able to escape our busy lives and spend time with such great friends and have a place to occasionally escape too.  As you can see we actually tented in the backyard near our favorite frog pond.  The weather was incredible and we didn't have to use the fly, so we could see the stars above and have easy viewing of any creatures that decided to visit us.

As I mentioned, we had a lovely time with our friends and as always when we're all together, we ate lots of great food. Along with some reading and chatting, I was also able to work on some knitting projects!

I finished the baby booties for Amanda and Sarah's little one. Amanda is due at the beginning of November and I hope these little socks will come in handy keeping little feet warm.  I really like the color way of this pair and how it striped (the yarn is cascade fixation). Grant did a good job picking out the yarn color.

I also worked on Broadripple from Knitty Summer 2003.  I *love* this color way and pattern. It's SO easy and is knitting up pretty fast.  This pair of socks is for my friend Dana, but I'm really liking them. I see a dilemma approaching...

We should have pictures up soon from our Georgia trip. Grant is doing some kind of Flickr picture tour.  I'll let you know when it's finished.

Little Booties Finished

I've finished one pair of baby booties that I'm working on. I'm knitting a few baby things  right now as I know lots of women having babies in the next few months.  It's fun knitting little things. They knit up pretty quick and they're just so darn cute.

Some Knitting Knews

Right now I'm mostly working on Grant's socks and a couple little things that I can't mention because they are gifts.  Grant's socks are actually a bit further than this - I'm well into the foot and should soon be changing yarn for the toe. (I'm switching to a odd green color for fun and well in case Grant has larger feet than I expected.)

In other news, our  first CSA delivery from Fresh & Local CSA is today!  Here is what we might expect to find in our bag...
Look for these items in your share bag:
1. Strawberries
2. Spring Onions
3. Lettuce Mix
4. Heirloom head lettuce
5. Cut Green (bunched: chard, kale or collards)
6. Lambquarters (bunched)
7. Mizuna mustard

Yeah!

Knitting Everyday

So Karen guessed correctly. I'm knitting the Peace Fleece Everyday Cardigan. (Thanks for playing everyone!)  I've been wanting to knit this sweater for quite some time. It seems like a perfect weekend sweater or a garment that will keep you warm and cozy when there's a chill in the air.

The color was hard to choose when there were so many pretty colors. I was drawn to the dark green (hemlock) and thought it would match a lot of other clothes in my wardrobe.  Knitting with this yarn has been lovely and the pattern is an easy stockinette stitch, so knitting during the superbowl and talking with friends was a piece of cake.  I think I'll need to take a break from this project occasionally so I'll have Grant's socks and the turtleneck shrug waiting in the wings.

While this isn't an obvious choice for the current Project Spectrum, it does have flecks of blue ( you can see in the below picture) and my hope if that I'll finish it up when green is the main color, which I think is in April.

A Contest - Guess What I'm Knitting

These lovely skeins of Peace Fleece arrived this week. I've had my eye on this yarn and soon to be told pattern since I started knitting a few years ago.  My friend Kirstin is also knitting this project and so we'll be supporting each other during the process.

I've started knitting with it today and I'll put up pictures of my progress soon.  Until then, any guesses as to what I'm knitting?

Leave me a comment of your guess and I'll put the correct guesses in a hat and draw a name. The winner will receive 2 skeins of Knit Picks Memories yarn. It's 100% Merino in the color Redwood Forest. There is a picure of the yarn below and it's the same yarn I used to knit my first socks.

I'll take guesses through Sunday evening and will reveal the winner on Monday.  I figured this was a fun way to do some stash busting.

Socks on Circs and Other Knit Happenings

So here is one of the projects I'm currently working on - socks for Grant.  I'm using Trekking XXL and I really like this yarn. It's knitting up well and the unpatterned variation is just the way I like it.  The colors are various shades of blue with some teal and silver mixed in.  It works out that this project will fit in nicely with Project Spectrum, which starts a week from today!

I'm also working on a One Skein Felted Bowl, which is almost finished.  I purchases a few skeins of chunky yarn at Maryland Sheep and Wool to make a number of bowls and so far this is a very easy and quick project.

Soon to be a felted bowl Turtleneck Shrug

Lastly, I have a project from Scarf Style on the needles as well. It's the Turtleneck Shrug, knit in yummy Rowan Kid Classic. Not many people I show this project to are digging this project very much, but I'm drawn to turtlenecks and I thought this one was a kinda funky and fun.  There are lots of fantastic inspirational photos on Flickr for this project and I'm looking forward to finishing and wearing my turtleneck...no scarf...no shrug.

A Twisted Topper

twisted top hat

So I started knitting the twisted top child's hat with the super socks & baby  yarn by Tess. After a couple false starts, the hat is knitting up nicely.  The yarn is dreamy and so soft. I think it will be perfect for the little boy I'm knitting it for...not too hot, not scratchy and machine washable - yeah!

In other news...I'm still quite ecstatic about the shift in the house and I'm hopeful about the senate. I'm happy that Santorum and Rumsfeld are on their way out. Things are looking up...

Grant left today for the Harm Reduction Conference in California.  I'm sure he'll have a busy, but great time. I'm happy that he's working in a job that he feels so passionate about.  For the next few days Kuba and I will be enjoying some quiet bonding time.  Speaking of Kuba, while I was having some tea, he was having a little snack too.

Thankfully I was done with the milk and there wasn't much left in the pitcher.  Ok, well I'm off to bed. More tomorrow...

sunday brunch and some knitting

sunday brunch So this morning we made this for breakfast – YUM!  We had Cara Cara red naval oranges, wheat toast with strawberry jam and egg scramble with mushrooms, green pepper, cheese and veggie Canadian bacon. It was quite tasty and there is nothing better than a late brunch made at home, while in your pajamas, listening to the “Sunday Morning” playlist.  It was a nice start to the day.

In other weekend news, I found some time to knit – yeah! I finished my Kim’s Hat from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. I love this hat pattern. It’s knit in the round and it calls for one of my favorite yarns, Manos. This color is O (aka rose.) This one is for my One Skein Pal. Hopefully she doesn't visit my blog.

Check out another view on my flickr.

I also worked on a little surprise for my secret pal, who may very well see this post before she gets it (we were all given hints this week), but that’s ok.  I’m not saying what it is…

Petal Bib Done!

Petal_bib_1 Bib_platypus_1

So I've finished the Petal Bib and it looks quite a bit better now that it's blocked.  Prior the blocking the petals curled up quite a bit and the stitching was kind of gwawnky (is that a word?). I'm happy with it now though and through the process I learned shorts rows and that they don't have to be the enemy.  I'm looking forward to my next project from this book as well as the One Skein Secret Pal.

I also have some other photos from my walk through the Arboretum - specifically of the lilacs. They were brilliant! Full size photos can checked out at my flickr.
