lighting to unite

This is what my bedroom view of the National Cathedral looks like tonight.  (well, not that close).  Tonight is the first of a 3-night show where the National Cathedral will be adorned in multi-colored, multi-shaped lighting.  The "installation" Lighting to Unite is the work of artist Gerry Hofstetter.  His art has appeared on the pyramids in Egypt, a bridge in Lucerne and a castle in Scotland.  The lights change every few minutes and Grant and I think we've seen all of the different images tonight.  We're hoping that tomorrow night will be a new show. There's a concert tomorrow evening so maybe head over for a better view and sound.

We love our apartment and this city...

Still knitting

I know there hasn't been much knitting news lately, but it's happening. Not as much as I'd like, but that's ok...life has been busy. Right now I'm on a DC bus headed home. It's funny when I took this picture 5 blocks ago the bus was empty and now it's standing room only...darn S buses. Ok back to knitting in public.

Union Station on Thanksgiving

Yes, we're at union station. 6rant is picking up our train tickets back from Maine after Christmas. There are lots of people milling around and waiting. Thankfully the weather is a balmy 68 degrees and sunny. Doesn't seem quite right with the big holiday wreaths.

Margaritas with Friends

DSC00344_2.JPG

There is a small group of us that tries to get together once a month to check out a new, or new to us, restaurant. The group has been getting together for a number of years and I joined them about 2 years ago.  For the ease of scheduling in my calendar, I refer to it as "dinner group."  Well last nice was dinner group and Sarah, Nathan, Jolene and I got together and had dinner at Casa Oaxaca (pronounced wa-HA-ca, which we all enjoyed saying) in Adams Morgan.

It's  always nice catching up over drinks and yummy food. Last night our dinner started out with jicama slices with a little paprika and lime juice. Then we order a pitcher of house margaritas and for my entree I had soft tacos with veggies, beans and rice.  While there were not a lot of vegan options on the menu, this dish was very good and I was definitely satisfied.

Next month we're thinking about going to one of the new restaurants in Columbia Heights. James, any suggestions?  Tonight Grant and I have reservations at Vegetate for restaurant week. We're very excited and I know they'll be lots of vegan options to choose from :)
